Vision Statement

1. Our Mission

A. We are called to declare and demonstrate the Good News to the nations.

i. Missions is in our DNA!
ii. Our heart is to bless, support, and embrace missions
iii. God has called us to go and make disciples of all nations – Matthew 28:19
iv. We are to ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field – Matthew 9:38
v. The heart of missions is to live among them for their sake – 1 Thessalonians 1:5

2. Our Commitments

A. Give of our income and our people in fulfilling our missions vision

B. Grow a missions vision among our people

i. Communicate our commitment to missions in all areas and ministries of COTH
ii. Include our people in praying for and giving to missions
iii. Encourage them to make monthly financial commitments to missions
iv. Send them on short-term missions teams and assignments

C. Identify those in our midst God is calling to missions

i. Engage them with missionaries passing through or locally based
ii. Train them in what missions looks like and how it operates
iii. Help them define and move toward their calling
iv. Support them in their training and preparation

D. Send short-term teams

i. Prioritize assisting the work of our missionaries on the field
ii. Provide tangible help with projects
iii. Grow our vision for missions as a church
iv. Provide our people with a missions experience

E. Partner with long-term missionaries

i. Build direct relationships between missionaries and members of the missions committee
ii. Share and receive regular communications for awareness and prayer
iii. Encourage life groups to adopt a missionary and connect at least 1 life group with each missionary
iv. Pray for them
v. Provide them with significant, ongoing financial support
vi. Assist them with projects and short-term missions teams
vii. Provide monthly designated donor report when donor information is available
viii. Make pastoral support and counseling services available, as needed
ix. Make periodic pastoral visits to missionaries on the field
x. Assist in providing for unforeseen, emergency needs as resources are available

3. Our Goals

A. Long-term missionary priorities

i. Prioritize sending our own into long-term missions work
ii. Maintain our deep commitment with YWAM
iii. Grow our Assemblies of God (AG) affiliation by supporting at least 1/3 of our missionaries as AG-appointed
iv. Keep our international ministry focus strong by supporting 2/3 of our missionaries as internationally focused
v. Grow our commitment to personnel serving in creative access locations such as China, Eurasia, and Northern Africa currently 1/3 of our missionaries

B. Financial support priorities

i. Review missionary partnerships commitment once per term (or every 2 years if no specified term)
ii. Make monthly financial commitments per long-term missionary for the duration of their terms (or 2 years if no set term) based on pre-approved plan
iii. Review our monthly commitments annually and consider increasing amounts as funds are available
iv. Set aside up to 10% of non-designated missions for pastoral visits
v. Commit up to 10% of non-designated missions for missions development
vi. Help with extra needs and projects as funds are available
vii. Present specific needs to the congregation for direct response
viii. Maintain a 3-month reserve based on monthly commitments

C. Prayer support priorities

i. Identify prayer concerns for each missionary we support
ii. Share these concerns with the missions committee
iii. Present these concerns at the monthly missions prayer meeting
iv. Share these concerns with partnering life groups
v. Share with individual church members who commit to pray
vi. Extremely important to use discretion with information of a personal, confidential, or political nature – especially online, on video, on displays, or from the pulpit

D. Vision building priorities

i. Incorporate missions focus in all aspects of church life – children, youth, young adults, men, women, life groups, seniors, school, staff
ii. Build visibility
1. Maintain updated missions maps at both campuses
2. Maintain updated website pages
iii. Provide opportunities to help our people understand missions work including cross-cultural ministry, ministry to unreached people groups, and creative access ministry through

E. In-person engagement of missionaries with COTH

i. Invite missionaries to visit our campuses during regular deputation periods or at least every 4-5 years
1. Meet with members of the missions committee
2. Engage with members of the congregation in some direct way, including with life groups that have partnered with them
3. Connect with people identified as moving toward missions to share vision
4. Introduce them to the larger congregation – options: preaching, missions window, video, short intro/prayer, lobby tabling, coffee hour

F. Short-term team priorities

i. Send short-term teams each year
ii. Raise COTH missions support for team members and for projects
iii. Build vision for short-term teams by communicating through videos, website, testimonies, FAQs
iv. Prioritize working with our own missionaries

4. Our Policies

A. We define a missionary as ...

... anyone serving in a full time capacity for 2 years or longer and sent by a reputable missions organization with the expressed purpose of fulfilling our missions vision as a church.

B. Process of sending and supporting a missionary

i. Each sending process will look di[erent according to the individual(s) being sent, the challenge of the location, and the sending organization
ii. Initial written missionary application – calling, ministry focus, potential of long-term transformation, strategic plan and timeline, financial need, high resolution picture
iii. Minimum of 1 year volunteer in a COTH ministry OR two character references OR approval by a sending agency COTH affirms
iv. Past and current involvement in Christian ministry
v. Approval by missions committee and pastoral leadership

C. Commitments by COTH to the missionaries ...

D. Commitments expected of partnering missionaries

i. Visit our campuses during regular deputation periods or at least every 4-5 years (see details in section 3.e. above)
ii. Affirm the values expressed by COTH
iii. Send personal and ministry updates to missions committee at least quarterly
iv. Serve as part of a stable ministry team or be accountable to appropriate leadership
v. Inform the missions committee within one month of decision, should the missionary sense God’s leading in a change of location or ministry focus

E. Committee meetings and minutes

i. Votes such as support determinations or policies are to be made by majority vote for in-person meetings and unanimously when voting by email.
ii. Votes are to be recorded in the Meeting Minutes as “motion”, “2nd”, and whether the motion passed.
iii. Meeting minutes, which are approved on or before the next meeting, are to be forwarded for review and acknowledgement at the following COTH board meeting.

F. Process of initiating and sustaining financial support

i. The missions committee reviews each submitted application or special request and votes to initiate financial support, including determined amount and stated term (for monthly support).
ii. The missions committee chair immediately communicates anyfinalized finance-related decisions and requests (including start date and determined amount) to COTH financial team.
iii. Definition of funding terms:
1. Sponsored – missionary support set by the missions committee, coming out of non-designated missions funding
2. Non-designated – funding given to the “general missions fund” with no specific missionary or project designated
3. Designated – Funds donated to a specific missionary or project
iv. Quickbooks Individual Missionary Accounts are opened, allowing both sponsored and designated funds to be issued to missionaries.
v. Sponsored and accumulated designated funds are transferred to each missionary on the first of the month.
vi. Donor lists are provided each missionary when funds are sent.
vii. Financial support remains active for the term agreed upon unless either party gives a 30-day notice of termination or change; any deviations must be approved by committee.
